Riviera UMC E-Letter September 10, 2026

"Hello Riviera Friends and Family!
There's an internet meme that I see every now and then that says, "Adulting is saying 'It'll be slower next!' for the rest of your life." Essentially saying that after a busy week, you expect next week to slow down...and it doesn't. Then we do it all over again. That's been the case for me and our family this week after the long weekend pushed a lot of projects onto a shorter week. I pray you've had a good week, are getting done what needs to be done, and are finding time to see how good God is all around you!
It's a particular habit to regularly look for the good around us. It's hard to do and takes regular practice. I recommend starting when you think things are going well. Take a few minutes and notice what's been going well. Make a regular habit of stopping to thank God for the air in your lungs, the rain that falls softly and brings about flowers, a shorter commute than you expected, a kind word from a friend. I believe building this habit of talking to God throughout the day can help when things get tough, and the conversation with God turns more frantic and full of anxiety. Many of us call on God, or use prayer, when we are worried, which we should. I would add that regular prayer and conversation with God throughout our day can help us notice how God answers us during the more frantic times.
This week in worship, we continue working on the "Like" portion of our "Like, Follow, & Subscribe" sermon series. We'll talk about the invitation to come to worship, and Psalm 103:1-13 will help us do that. Before Sunday, try reading the Psalm out loud, as if it were poetry or a song. Hear how the words echo the love of all that God is in our lives. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday because "Church is better with you!"
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Augie"
